DreamKids®: Helping Children Manage their Emotions | What We Discovered in Learning Lab Year 2

$150.00

What happens when we stop trying to tell children what they should feel… and give their imagination somewhere to go?

During Year 2 of the DreamKids® Learning Lab, Dr. Catherine Shainberg, Sheona McEwan and a group of professionals working with children explored this question together.

We expanded DreamKids® into some of the everyday, and sometimes difficult, experiences of childhood: stress and sleeplessness, courage and confidence, family relationships, comparison, friendship, belonging and discovering who you are.

We created imagery exercises. We tried them ourselves and with children. We came back together and asked: What happened? What worked? What surprised us?

Some exercises worked immediately. Some changed as we worked with them. Some took us somewhere entirely unexpected.

That was part of the discovery.

In this special four-hour experiential workshop, we invite you to experience what we discovered…and to play, imagine and experiment for yourself.

No previous DreamKids® experience is required.

DreamKids® Learning Lab 2 Refresher | Special Workshop | Saturday, October 10, 2026 | 10:00AM – 2:00PM EDT / 4:00PM – 8:00PM CEST (Adjust for your local time zone)

What happens when we let the image lead?

Children already know how to imagine. Through play and imagination, they explore their world, express experiences and discover possibilities that they may not yet have words to explain.

DreamKids® begins there.

Throughout Year 2, Catherine Shainberg, Sheona McEwan and the DreamKids® Learning Lab participants developed and refined a growing collection of Saphire® Imagery exercises specifically for children.

The exercises can be deceptively simple.

A puppy trying to sleep. A baby fawn. A peeking bird. A dog park. An empty seat. A diamond.

Inside these playful images, children can encounter feelings, relationships, fears, wishes, strengths and possibilities — and discover their own ways of responding.

One of our important discoveries was that we don’t always need to rush in and make the uncomfortable thing disappear. Rather than telling a child what they should see, feel or change, imagery invites us first to see what is there.

Sometimes the image changes. Sometimes the child changes something. Sometimes something completely unexpected appears.

Our task is not always to provide the answer. It is to learn how to follow.

In this experiential workshop, you will:

  • Experience imagery exercises developed during DreamKids® Year 2 around stress, sleep, confidence, family, friendship, comparison, belonging and identity.
  • Play and experiment with the exercises yourself, rather than simply learning techniques to use with children.
  • Explore how to offer an image without controlling where it goes — and how to listen to what a child actually gives us.
  • Discover how imagination can support confidence, resilience, emotional awareness, creativity and problem-solving from the inside out.

This workshop is for parents, teachers, counselors, therapists, educators and others who live or work with children. No previous experience with DreamKids® is required.

Come prepared to do what we ask children to do:

Imagine. Play. Notice. Experiment.

Continue into DreamKids® Year 3
