In this distinctive limited series,  held in collaboration with SOI Japan, Catherine Shainberg will meet with four masters of Japanese traditions to discuss their work and explore spiritual and cultural connections to Saphire® Imagery. In this distinctive limited series,  held in collaboration with SOI Japan, Catherine Shainberg will meet with four masters of Japanese traditions to discuss their work and explore spiritual and cultural connections to Saphire® Imagery. Beginning October 31, 2024, Catherine will hold four one-hour conversations with extraordinary Masters of Japanese art and spiritual forms, designed to jolt your creativity and bring you a deeper understanding of the connection between Saphire® Imagery and Japanese traditions, culture and the new perspectives they bring about imagery and dreaming.

What is Saphire®Imagery? For decades Catherine Shainberg and the School of Images have made it a mission to define this groundbreaking practice — which has its roots in an 800-year-old-tradition — for the wider world. The art of inner gazing and communing with the imagination through dreaming and imagery work, Saphire Imagery has helped thousands find deeper meaning and fulfillment in their lives. And with great fascination and joy, one can discover shared roots, messages and common threads in Saphire Imagery’s tradition that can be found in other cultures globally.

On October 31, Catherine speaks with Shuhou, an accomplished teacher of the flower path. She has served as the first flower arranging artists at the Ginkakuji Temple in Kyoto and hrough the temple’s international cultural exchange programs, she has interacted with various countries and private cultural facilities and organizations in France, Hong Kong, the United States, Mexico, Taiwan, and other countries. Since 2016, he has been active in mainland China in addition to Hong Kong, and is also involved in the “JAPAN HOUSE” project run by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to promote Japanese culture overseas. On November 7, Catherine speaks with Tadashi Ogasaware, an acclaimed Kyogen actor and Nohgaku Master in the Izumi-ryu style of Kyogen. He is a member of The Japanese Association of Nohgaku Performers – an official, living important and intangible cultural artifact. He began as Apprentice to the first head of Man-Kyogen, Nomura Man in 1983 and since has then not just in Japan but internationally in France and BRazil. performed internationally. On November 14, Catherine speaks with Fumihiro Hoshino, esteemed Yamabushi. A Yamabushi or Mountain Monk is practitioner of Shugendo (Japanese mountain asceticism & shamanism, incorporating Shinto and Buddhist concepts). On November 21, Catherine speaks with Hiroki Okano, an world-renowned nature musician and sound artist. Since 1990, he has released nearly 40 albums as an artist, both solo and in groups.  He is currently represented by DOMO Records in the U.S. As the director of the satellite digital music broadcasting service “Saint Giga,” which mainly focuses on the sounds of nature, he has recorded natural sounds around the world and developed “sound installations” both in Japan and overseas that use 1,000 original wind chimes to create a sound space that is as close to nature as possible.
