Introduction to Tarot | Workshop | English + Japanese

$574.00

What if a single book could reveal to you the path to balance in your life? That book – a book of images – is also known as Tarot. Many are familiar with Tarot as a divination tool. At SOI, Tarot is a book of images, a storyboard of our present condition and a portal to our subconscious mind that helps us to see who we are, what we want, and new ways to manifest our intentions. Through the forms, shapes, colors, letters and numbers of each card, Tarot is a fast, simple and direct way to explore images and open your dreams, the basis for creativity, imagination and manifestation. In this workshop you will learn how to see and use Tarot in an entirely new and powerful way, and lay down the foundation for further exploration of this exceptional book of images that will endlessly serve your growth and transformation.

SOI’s Introduction to Tarot uses Saphire® Imagery techniques to begin revealing the multi-dimensional meanings hidden in a remarkable Tarot deck known as the restored Marseilles Tarot.

Dr. Catherine Shainberg, Master of Saphire® Imagery, joined by Makiko Miki of SOI Japan, will introduce you to the richness of Tarot imagery and show how this imagery can open a quick and accessible portal to your own images, dreams, and inner revelations. Ultimately, you will learn to better understand yourself and your path to manifestation.

At SOI, the Tarot is a book of images, a storyboard of our present condition and a portal to our subconscious mind. While you may be familiar with modern Tarot decks and causal uses for “readings,” our approach here is different. In this workshop we explore its true nature as a Book of Images whose pages are reordered with every throw. These throws do not come from the divine, not a “reader” nor any other outside source – they come from the inside, from you. Gain a fresh look at your present moment and reveal the possibilities, through your own inner gazing, with each throw.

This helps us access our subconscious and the truth and guidance that resides there, if we only allow it. Each card offers a story, each throw is like a dream; a question is asked and a response is given that you can open up, each time. This is an especially valuable resource for those who may find accessing their inner world of images challenging.

With Tarot as our tool for inner gazing, we aim to clarify both the steps to transformation and the practice that leads to it. The introductory workshop will lay the foundation to study the book of Tarot as a whole and as each card, to uncover the profound teachings and path to inner transformations that the cards illustrate.

In each class, exercises are presented, and each student is asked what (s)he saw after the exercise is done. The exercises are powerful, revelatory, effective and easy to do. One of the advantages of this method is that mental resistance largely disappears, so the process is simple and quick.

While we do not know the origins of Tarot—the first decks appear in 1500 CE—the Tarot can be considered as a compendium of the Western spiritual teachings. Indeed, the cards speak to an age-old wisdom that is akin to the Jewish mystical tradition. There were other influences in the formation of the deck, and we will look at possible historical links to the Western esoteric tradition as well.

The class will be held in English with translation to Japanese. Students who enroll in the course should have the these two tarot decks prior to the first day of the workshop:

1) the Camoin-Jodorowsky Marseille deck*
2 ) the Rider Waite deck

Registrants will receive a Zoom link prior to the first session. See a Japanese translation of the workshop details here.
